Ref. 1917
Sumptuous building of concrete and glass
Quimper
Description
This sumptuous concrete and glass building, with its linear and geometric form, undoubtedly recalls the architectural style of the Bauhaus movement. While the work is sumptuous, the story surrounding it is equally admirable. The builder, once imprisoned in Germany, is said to have learned to make concrete and drawn inspiration from what he saw there. Upon his return, he erected the work by hand with the help of his wife and friends, using the stream to feed his mortar and mix the concrete in a barrel. A musician, he created a tavern that, at its peak, was known throughout the region.
The ground floor, approximately 262 m², houses various spaces, rooms, and other water features. Taking the masonry staircase, one discovers the jewel of the building: a sumptuous room with its dizzying volumes, featuring a magnificent vaulted ceiling reminiscent of a boat's hull. On the mezzanine, the gallery surrounding the dance floor creates a theatrical and musical atmosphere. An exterior concrete staircase leads to the roof terrace offering a 360-degree view of the surrounding countryside.
This exceptional property will delight those seeking renovation projects to restore this unique location to its former glory and grandeur. Exceptional housing, guest accommodation, and cultural projects are just a few of the projects that will easily find their place in this ineffable architectural gem.
